On-site live gas calibration
Calibration of a gas detectorBionics Instrument has been promoting on-site live gas calibration for more than 25 years already. Still it is the only 100% guarantee for a good performance of any type of gas detector.

Of course Bionics Instrument tests and calibrates all their sensors at their factory and like most manufacturers of electrochemical sensors we equip our sensors with all the necessary internal self check functions.

In the past several incidents with different brands of gas detectors have shown that just a calibration at the factory is not sufficient.

Crucial for any type of gas detector is the condition of the chemicals, which react with the gas. For electrochemical sensor the reaction takes place with the electrolyte and the electrodes. With a tape type system the reacting chemicals are impregnated in the tape. Beside the reactivity of the chemicals it is important that the target gas can reach the sensing element without any loss of concentration.

Live gas calibration on-site is safe and it will guarantee:

For detectors with electrochemical sensors

  • The membrane position has not been changed during transportation and installation. Transportation in for example an airplane with big pressure fluctuations might cause a membrane to shift.
  • The membrane is not blocked by any protective sheet
  • The electrolyte is 100% reactive.

For tape type systems

  • The tape is 100% reactive (no mistakes are made during storage e.g. incorrect temperature conditions etc.)
  • There is sufficient humidity at the site to provide a proper reaction

For all types of gas detector

  • No false or saturated filters are installed, which might adsorb the target gas. (The sensors of Bionics Instrument have been engineered in a way that almost no filters are required)
  • The sample lines are not polluted and they do not absorb the target gas.
  • The sample lines are not too long.

All detection systems of Bionics Instrument can easily be calibrated at your location. The calibration is always with a safe no destructive concentration of gas. Special calibration kits are available and we also provide a service in which we perform the calibration for you.
